Wharton County Junior College is committed to providing a discrimination-free environment for its students with disabilities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.. Students with disabilities are encouraged to inform the college of any assistance they may need upon application for admission to attend WCJC. Early self-identification by the student will allow the student to receive approved accommodations as quickly as possible. (Please see EO page information).
It is the responsibility of the student with a disability to voluntarily and confidentially disclose information regarding the nature and extent of the disability. Wharton County Junior College does not assume responsibility for providing special accommodations and services to students who have not identified themselves as having a qualifying disability, who have not made their need known, and requested accommodations in a timely manner.
The process for obtaining reasonable accommodations begins with the student's disclosure of his/her disability to the Coordinator of Disability Services. The student has the responsibility of providing the Office of Disability Services with the appropriate medical and/or psychological documentation from a qualified physician or clinician who has diagnosed the student's disability (please see Documentation Guidelines below).
Disability information is strictly confidential and is not released without consent of the student. Additionally, disability information is not part of your WCJC academic records or academic transcript. A student will not be charged an additional fee for an accommodation that has been approved and written into an Action Plan by the Coordinator of Disability Services.
Continuing WCJC students must request continuation of their approved accommodations prior to each semester. The request for continuation should be one month prior to each semester by contacting the Office of Disability Services
Further information about reasonable accommodations in a college setting may be obtained by contacting the Coordinator of Disability Services.
