Wharton County Junior College is committed to providing a discrimination-free environment for its students with disabilities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Students with disabilities are encouraged to inform the college of any assistance they may need upon application for admission to attend WCJC. Early self-identification by the student will allow the student to receive approved accommodations as quickly as possible. Disability information is strictly confidential and is not released without consent of the student. Additionally, disability information is not part of your WCJC academic records or academic transcript.
It is the responsibility of the student with a disability to voluntarily and confidentially disclose information regarding the nature and extent of the disability. Wharton County Junior College does not assume responsibility for providing special accommodations and services to students who have not identified themselves as having a qualifying disability, who have not made their need known, and requested accommodations in a timely manner.
Steps to Apply for Accommodations
1. Contact the Coordinator of Disability Services to schedule an ADA Intake and Orientation at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 979-532-6384. It is important to schedule this appointment early, preferably one month prior to the first semester of enrollment.
2. Bring documentation of disability to the scheduled ADA Intake and Orientation appointment. Please review the Documentation Guidelines prior to the Intake meeting to ensure all documentation needed is available for the meeting.
3. Review the documentation of disability and discuss the accommodations for college with the Coordinator of Disability Services.
4. Ask questions! This is especially true for all first-time in college students.
A student will not be charged any fee for an accommodation that has been approved and written into an Action Plan by the Coordinator of Disability Services.
Continuation of Accommodations
Continuing WCJC students must request continuation of their approved accommodations prior to each semester. The request for continuation should be at least one month prior to each semester by contacting the Office of Disability Services.
Further information about reasonable accommodations in a college setting may be obtained by contacting the Coordinator of Disability Services.Coordinator of Disability Services: Dr. Jimmie Flanagin
