Minimum Requirements

The following qualifications MUST be met before enrolling in the program:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be a high school graduate or have passed the G.E.D. test.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have NOT been convicted any any time of a felony offense
  • MUST NOT be on probation for any criminal offense above a grade of Class C Misdemeanor.
  • Have NOT been convicted of any grade offense for family violence, Class A or B Misdemeanor offense (including DWI or DUID) within the last five years.Have been honorably discharged from the military, if applicable.
    • Having a criminal record may make you ineligible for certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.   • Possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must have physical endurance to lift a normal size human.
  • Apply and be accepted by WCJC as a student.
  • Pre-TASP OR THEA OR THEA equivalent reading requirement met.
